Alaska actually has a dramatically different culture from the other states, I've actually seen it described before as it feeling like you're in a different country...
And.. Yeah.
I feel like the other states wouldn't ignore Sam completely, but just... Not be completely aware of his existence, I guess. I see so many mentions of other individual states in my America history class, it's ridiculous. And they leave important things like the Aleutian Islands Campaign out entirely... While still mentioning Pearl Harbour (The Japanese did the exact same thing in Alaska that they did in Hawaii, along with actually taking people hostage. :I ).
But that's just a small part. In my history book, not even the Alaska Purchase is mentioned. )
